Lake front festival of the Arts: Meet Xavier Nuez
Hello everyone, my name is Crystal Williams, and welcome to my second blog called Adventurous Dreams. In this blog, I will be writing stories of my own experiences that I have had that is not sports-related, and also writing articles on interesting topics. If you are interested in sports, please visit my first blog, where I post all sports content called Crystal Sideline Buzz: Crystal Sideline Buzz. In today's article, I will be discussing this amazing artist that I met, named Xavier Nuez, whose photography is heavily inspired by making scary places into something beautiful. I would like to thank Xavier for giving me to opportunity to tell your story!
Scary area into Beauty
Xavier Nuez, a photographer from Chicago, transforms overlooked locations into captivating works of art. He believes that during the nighttime is when the magic starts to happen. "I bring lots of lighting equipment, three big bags of battery-powered colored lights, and I light these places up at night," Nuez said. His goal is to take ordinary, abandoned, or intimidating spaces that people would typically avoid and turn into stunning visual art. One of his works that really stood out was captured in Detroit, Michigan, where he photographed an abandoned location. "It's a 30-minute exposure shot with a 50-year-old film camera," he says. To achieve this perfect shot, he moves through the scene with lights in his hands, carefully illuminating the space. Dressed in back, as he remains nearly invisible to the camera. As long as he keeps moving, the camera will only capture the colorful lights and not his shadow.
One of Nuez's most notable and popular projects is the mushroom theme artwork he created in his studio. The project itself took nearly 30 hours to complete. "That's a set that I built in my studio. I turned off the lights, switched on the fog machine, and in the darkness, began lighting the scene- I even placed lights in the mushrooms," he explains. Since mushrooms have a limited lifespan, he can't return to the project days later to make adjustments. Instead, he remains in his studio, takes brief naps on his couch before getting right back to work to ensure the artwork is complete in time.

My final thought on Xavier Nuez
All in all, after seeing all of his artwork, I must say he's a very talented photographer. Among all of his artworks that he showcased at the festival, the mushroom and the beach scene were my ultimate favorites. I know those two are very expensive to purchase, but I know that someone who has a good eye and taste in art, without any hesitation, bought them. Nuez was a very kind artist, and he did a very nice job explaining all of his artwork and how long the process was, and how much he loves his job.
